This past weekend we had an incredible conversation with our daughter—one of those deep, unexpected moments where everyone laughs, learns, and sees each other a little more clearly. We realized that our stubbornness can be a pain for us parents dealing with a headstrong child… and just as much of a pain for a child dealing with a headstrong parent. And honestly, I have no idea where she gets it from. Definitely not me. (Okay… maybe a little.) ha
Watching our children grow into their own, into adults, is one of the most bittersweet parts of parenting. We’re excited to see them becoming who they’re meant to be, yet there’s a quiet sadness realizing they’re beginning to fill their cup of life with their own experiences, their own choices, their own dreams… and just a little less of us. It's a beautiful journey for everyone.
In our life-lesson conversations, we always remind our kids that they matter—that they have a place in this world and that they will make an impact. One of our long-standing life lesson practices is asking them our famous question: “Who are you?” Over the years, they’ve learned to answer confidently: “I am a strong, independent young man/woman.”
That simple but powerful response has helped the kids step into a greater responsibility with confidence, and it teaches them to hold themselves accountable. They begin to feel proud not just of who they are, but of who they are becoming.
So where does the stubbornness come in?
During our chat, we discussed that if stubbornness is part of who we are, then maybe we just need to use it better. Her and I both agreed that we needed to make this our topic and article for the week. We are calling the title,
Stubborn For The Ring Of Success
Not the Loop of Drama
It means being stubborn in the right direction, stubborn with our successes, our growth, our purpose, and our peace, and not being stubborn in conflict, negativity, or pointless drama we sometimes find ourselves in. It’s about making the decision to endure for what matters in our life, and refusing not to get sucked into the endless cycles that drain our energy and create confusion setting you up for failure.
When you stay anchored to the vision you have for yourself, your setbacks become stepping stones and your resilience grows stronger. You stop reacting to every twist in someone else’s story and start writing your own with meaning and intention.
Living with this kind of focused determination doesn’t just get you through your day to day struggles but it transforms them for the positive. It will then become fuel for your personal breakthroughs, for your growth, and for the next chapter of who you’re becoming in this beautiful journey.
Keep in mind that no matter what's going on in your life it is up to you and only you to create beauty in your journey.
