This week we discuss the Importance of Dealing with Life's Stresses.
This week, while hosting our LIFTwarrior TikTok live sessions from Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 8:45 AM, and interacting with the LIFT Team members across the different social media platforms we use, I was stressing out over something I shouldn’t have been and that is what sparked this weeks article.
Life is full of ups and downs.
While there are many happy moments, we will also face challenges and stresses that will feel overwhelming. Understanding these stresses and how to cope with them is important for our own mental and emotional health.
First of all let's take a look at what Stress is in our personal journey.
Stress is the way our body reacts to the pressures we experience in life. It can come from many different places, like work, our relationships, money problems, health issues, (This is a big one for me personally), or big changes like moving or losing someone important to us.
A little stress can motivate us to do our best if we have a strong identity, but too much stress for a longer period of time can cause serious problems in so many areas.
It will affect your sleep patterns, eating habits, mental & physical health and your personal relationships.
Being able to identify when we’re feeling stressed out is crucial and some common signs to look out for include the following.
Pay attention when friends or coworkers point out to you when they see signs of you stressing out. In stressful situations that you are experiencing, you will often develop tunnel vision and may lose focus on what’s important at the current moment.
Stress can arise from situations like being wrongly accused of something or when others don’t follow through on their promises, leaving you feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. This very one happened to me personally this past week.
Some of the Physical symptoms to pay attention to include headaches, tiredness, muscle pain, and trouble sleeping, and High Blood Pressure!! lol
The emotional signs of feeling anxious, irritable, or sad are other forms of stress to look out for.
You could possibly develop behavioral changes like eating differently, avoiding social activities with friends and family, or using alcohol or drugs to numb it to just get by.
Noticing these signs early can help you manage the stress before it gets worse or you end up doing something that you end up regretting. This happens all to often.
So, How does Stress Affect Us?
Long-term stress can harm our mental and physical health. It can lead to anxiety, depression, heart problems, and other serious issues if we are not careful. Stress can also make it hard to focus or make the right decisions when needed.
Let's take a look at some exercises and strategies that can assist you with managing stress.
Taking time to relax and focus each day will reduce any anxiety you might be experiencing. Breathing exercises and doing guided meditation can help calm your mind. I personally like to be outside, close my eyes and listen to nature that is all around me.
Exercise stimulates the release of endorphins, improves your mood, and helps with better sleep, which enhances your mental and physical health.
Even taking small walks can help.
Connecting with close friends or family can provide support, which makes it easier to share your feelings and can help put stress into perspective.
Planning tasks and setting realistic goals, yes, I said realistic goals, can prevent feeling overwhelmed. Breaking tasks into smaller steps can make them easier to accomplish. LIFT can assist you with this.
Eating better nutritious foods, getting enough sleep, and avoiding too much alcohol, sugar and caffeine can help manage stress. Living a healthier lifestyle supports both your body and your mind.
Talking to a licensed therapist or counselor will offer support and coping strategies tailored to your individual needs. We, (LIFT), are not licensed counselors but we are a motivational inspirational organization. Coaches and counselors both help people, but they do it in different ways. A coach like us helps people set goals and reach specific achievements, while a counselor helps with emotional or mental health issues, guiding people through past problems or struggles in order to heal.
We know it can be hard to admit but stress is a normal part of our everyday lives, but we don’t have to let it take over. By understanding stress and recognizing its signs, we can use effective strategies to feel better and keep the stresses of life at bay. Taking care of our mental health is just as important as taking care of our physical health. We must remember that it's okay to ask for help when we need it; doing so can lead to a happier, more balanced fullfilling life.
Our goal with this article is to bring clarity about what stress is and how to deal with it so you might live a more stress free life.
