Today We Learn The Importance of “Venting”

This week, while hosting our LIFTwarrior TikTok live sessions from Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 8:45 AM, and interacting with the LIFT Team members across all the different social media platforms we use, we discussed “Stop Pretending To Be Someone or Something You Are Not.”

The Importance of Venting: Finding Relief Through Someone You Trust

Our world is so fast-paced, stress can build up like snow on a side of a mountain, threatening to avalanche with overwhelming emotions causing us to lose our focus or knock us off our personal mission. It can be a result of the pressures we experience from our jobs, personal challenges with our family, health, finances or even our relationships. At one point or another in our journey we will all experience stress and frustration. While a few will feel the need to bottle up their feelings, it’s important to understand that venting to someone you know and trust can be a healthy and effective way to cope.

What Are The Benefits of Venting you ask?

Having An Emotional Release, Expressing your feelings to others can provide a huge emotional relief. Just like the Instant Pot my wife uses when she cooks incredible dinners which needs to release steam from building up, sharing your thoughts will help release the built up burdens from your mind and your heart. Venting will allow you to express your daily struggles, transforming your chaotic emotions into better thoughts.

Experiencing A Perspective Shift, Talking to someone you know and trust can offer a fresh perspective on your situation, but ladies, us guys have to keep in mind that we must be willing to LISTEN to receive that perspective and not turn into Mr Fix It that we are always accustomed to doing, after all "Men Are From Mars and Women Are From Venus." Take a few seconds and let your partner know you are about to go into Ventville and you need them to listen and not fix it to help prepare them. lol

When venting to friends and loved ones they can provide insights that you might not have considered, helping you to see the problem from different angles and potentially identify possible solutions. Keep in mind if you are venting to the men in your lives, we will sometimes become the "FIX It Guy." So guys remember that not everyone wants us guys to fix it but to just listen so they can get it out of their system so they can move on to Tacos and Margaritas. lol

Strengthening Your Relationships, Sharing your feelings will deepen your connections with others you are close with. Being vulnerable will create a deeper, more intimate relationship, and when you open up, it will encourage the other person to share their own personal experiences as well, this creates a mutual understanding and a stronger support system for everyone. I know it's easier said than done but with communication and understanding this can be an easy process.

The Importance To Reduce Your Stress Levels, Scientific studies have shown that talking about the stresses in your life will lower cortisol levels, this is the hormone associated with stress. This biological response can lead to a sense of calm and relaxation, allowing you to face challenges with a clearer mind. In case you are not aware, Cortisol is a crucial hormone that helps our bodies respond to stress, regulate our metabolism, and control our blood pressure and blood sugar.

The Importance Of  Choosing the Right Person to Vent To

While venting can be beneficial in so many areas, it’s crucial to choose the right person, I know this is the least thing to worry about when you are frustrated but in time you learn who you can turn to to find comfort. Look for someone who is empathetic, a good listener, and non-judgmental and does their best not to become The Fix It Guy. This could be a close friend, family member, or even a therapist. The goal is to find someone who can provide support rather than magnify your stress.

The Best Approach To Venting

Set the Scene, Choose a comfortable and private setting where you can talk freely without interruptions. This ensures that both you and your listener can focus entirely on the conversation.

Be Honest, Share your feelings openly and honestly. Don’t hold back on how certain situations have impacted you. Authenticity is key to effective venting, it can be a bit easy to go off and exaggerate to make it seem worse, just do your best not to do that.

Expressing Gratitude, After venting, take a moment to thank the person for listening. Acknowledging their support not only shows appreciation but also reinforces the bond between you. If you want to have a little fun showing how thankful you are and to lighten the conversation you can always end it with something like this,  "Thank you for enduring my emotional rollercoaster! Your ears deserve medals, your patience is legendary, and your kindness is the stuff of fairy tales. You're the MVP of listening, the champion of compassion, and the unsung hero of my emotional outburst. Seriously, if there were a Nobel Prize for 'Best Listener,' you'd have a shelf full by now. Thanks a million!" Yes, I know that might be a bit over the top but that could end everything on a fun note.

Do You Have To Follow Up, Yes, You Should

If the conversation leads to solutions or insights, consider following up later to reflect on how things have turned out. This shows that you value their input and strengthens your connection.

It's Time To Move Forward, Your Actions Will Always Speak Louder Than Your Words

Once you’ve vented and processed your feelings, it’s important to take steps to move forward. Use the insights gained from your conversation to tackle your challenges head-on. Whether that means setting boundaries at work, prioritizing self-care, or seeking professional help, being proactive and not just reactive will empower you to reclaim control over your journey

Venting to someone you know and trust is not just acceptable; it’s a vital part of maintaining your emotional well-being. It will provide an opportunity to release your pent-up emotions, gain new perspectives, and strengthen your relationships. So, the next time you feel overwhelmed, remember that reaching out to a trusted friend can be a significant step toward dealing with your stress allowing you to move forward in life. Embrace the power of your connections and allow yourself to be heard.

Check out what some of our LIFT supporters had to say during our TikTok lives this past week.

@cosmichippiegirl: Cheryl: I believe venting is important to someone's mental well being. With that said, it is important that as they vent the person/people listening understand it is just venting. The listener must come from a place of understanding and unconditional positive regard and not try to fix or justify - just simply listen.

@Kayla.lynnnn: Finally expressing how I feel after so much build up, it makes me feel relieved.

@Mikemehoff: Venting extremely healthy, Scream, Cry, Just Talk…. better than holding it all in.

@moonbear: I think stress over time can wear us down and convince us that we don’t have choices anymore.

@Rebecca Bevis: It can be depressing when you vent to someone and feeling get hurt.

Wow! We're incredibly grateful for the amazing feedback and truly honored to have their support.
